The Island of Whimerey is linked to the mainland by the Electric Pier which trundles out through the waves on rails laid under the water from the seaside resort of Whimsea. Driven by electric motors on deck, which pick up current from the overhead line of wires, the pier is reputedly of "all weather" capability. A bright if breezy day is tempting a few intrepid excursionists but it has to be said that faith in the proprietors' safety claims is not universally shared!
