M12 HOLYSOCKE WELL - Plackett Valley Line, Whimshire

The growing popularity of Holysocke Well as a tourist attraction during the late 1800s prompted local enterprise to augment the somewhat spartan station facilities here with a kiosk serving souvenirs and light refreshments. The train sets off for Plackett Threadbare, leaving the permanent way gang to dig down through the ash ballast and find some more rotten sleepers to replace. Although the Plackett Valley Railway merged with the Whimchester & Spaddleport Railway in 1891 to form the East Whimshire Railway, the company retained its original livery for many years after the event, as can be seen in this picture.
